A Magnificent Conception of the Time of Birth and How God Orchestrates the Use and Destiny of Our Life in the Natural and Spiritual Worlds

“Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” (The Bible, Isaiah 43:7) Life begins at conception for that is when the union in the natural takes place between the sperm and the egg. At the moment of union science shows there is a flash of light; I believe this flash is the indication of the unition between the spiritual and the natural that forms a human being. Does anyone really think that God creates halfway? No, once God’s sets life in motion, it is whole and it is eternal, for what God wills is eternal by nature, and the macro is always contained in the micro in potential. This wholeness at conception can be compared to the way a seed contains all the particulars in potential to become a huge tree; or how DNA contains all the info to create a complete human. In the Bible the meaning of  ‘every jot and title’ is that it is immutable that what God wills always comes into being in every particular and in every detail. “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? (Numbers 23:19)

Everything that is living is born from the union of the natural and the spiritual; there is no exception – union is the universal process of manifestation. Only God is uncreated from eternity, but union comes from God for in him is the Holy marriage between his divine essence and divine human. In addition even the Lord was born on earth and underwent the greatest process of union that will ever be known as the Glorification process (which I have written in detail about in other posts). The process of union is universal. Swedenborg says this in many places but perhaps non better than in expressing the meaning of correspondences in the word ‘midwife’:

“The natural is then like a midwife; for unless the natural affords aid, it is impossible for any birth of interior truth to take place; for when interior truths are born, it is the natural which receives them into its bosom, because it affords the opportunity for them to work their way out. It is always the case with the things of spiritual birth, that their reception must be wholly in the natural; and this is the reason why when a man is being regenerated, the natural is first prepared to receive; and insofar as this is made receptive, so far interior truths and goods can be brought forth and multiplied” (Arcana Celestia, 4588).

At the moment a human is born in the universe there is (as proposed in astrology) a constellation of the planets that is a prime influence in forming the character of the new person; it’s an expression of the need in the world, the universe and heaven at that very moment. In the Biggest picture possible the universe is in the form of a human, known as the Grand man- this is the macro body of Jesus, and this is how we are all in His body. The whole of heaven is in the form of the perfect divine human, and the whole of hell is in the form of a dark monstrous human. The natural universe is in the form of a human and has correspondences to both. In this picture the planets and sun are the local gravitational influences closest to us; they are our home in the universe. They have a dominant influence because we are within the reach of their gravity. And in the spiritual sense gravity is a sphere of love, a sphere which is the union of love and wisdom, and which produces innumerable spiritual qualities, skill and gifts of the soul. Each planet has a unique size, set of moons, shapes and orbits, and correspondingly has a unique spiritual sphere of influence. All of this is orchestrated by the providence of God and gives each new person spiritual qualities and gifts that serve a unique purpose in society and the spiritual world.

The above paragraph gives an overall idea of how it works, but I think it is needed to give to articulate a tangible sense of how God works through the sun, the planets and their spheres in influencing a human being.

There is a great correspondence that connects gravity, planets and God. On the natural level we know that Gravity is the force that creates the constellation of the planets in their orbits. Every object of any size has a certain amount of gravity. The planets in our solar system are huge mass so have a gravitational influence in the solar system in an interrelated way; and we know the planets are held under the gravity of the sun, which is the center and dominant influence. On the spiritual level Gravity corresponds to the attractive quality of love – and, most significantly, contained in this love is all the wisdom to manifest the end purpose of the love. This wisdom is rich, and of infinite variety in serving all things. The wisdom corresponds to light, and light, when it goes through a prism it is seen that in it are infinite variations of colors. similarly contained in wisdom are all the principles of life, all the spiritual gifts and talents that manifest in the souls of men. So the astrological constellation of the planets corresponds to the constellation of gifts God has given to the new person in their soul. So in growing we are compelled to seek to manifest these gifts in our life and community. All of this is orchestrated by the infinite wisdom of God – for He knows and guides the use and connection of each person in every community throughout the universe in the natural and spiritual worlds. In Exodus 31:15, God tells us that it is He that gives us the gifts of talents, creativity and virtues: “Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ‘See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.’”

Each person from creation has a special use for the whole; as each enters heaven they bring new elements to perfection and happiness of all. The more than enter heaven the more complete it becomes and this for all eternity. The nature of heaven as a whole is ever increasing Joy.

And as I wrote about in the last post on ‘The Second Death’ at he time of death a constellation is formed in the soul of every person in regard to the concordance between their internal and external self which determines their place in heaven or hell. And this new life, if heavenly, is the manifestation of our ultimate destiny in heaven for eternity, which is again orchestrated by the infinite and never ending love of God.

  • thanks for this piece, steve. Short but holds tremendous meaning.

    • Yes, it makes me think of Christ as the life-giving sun and his disciples as the planetary bodies revolving around him.
