How It Is that True Marriage Love is the Repository of the Christian Religion

May 31st, 2020

In the post I did before about conjugal love (marriage love) and soul mates Swedenborg said, “Therefore it is provided that conjugal pairs be born and that, under the Lord’s auspices, they be continually educated for their marriage, neither the boy nor the girl knowing it.” This shows that the events and trials that happen in our life (potentially) prepare us for our eventual mate. We don’t see it but God is providentially guiding us. So it is our job to work at keeping the faith to the end in spite of the ups and downs, the trials, and times of loneliness in this life. Some folks are fortunate enough to find it here; Swedenborg says it is rare on earth. Only those that love the divine human, and perceive all good comes from Him are able to have conjugal love. Conjugal love (and all genuine relationships in order to work) must come from the core self that is in relationship, and in humility, toward the Lord. This is where the ‘education’ comes in. If we identify with the external parts of our personality – parts that have developed in our personality to cope with all the traumas and pains of life – then it is very hard to be in genuine, lasting relationship with another. In processing and understanding the trials of our life we can discern the difference between our external and internal self. To be in deep intimacy our internal self must be the ruler of the external parts of our self.

It is also remarkable that he says, “THE CONJUGIAL LOVE OF ONE MAN WITH ONE WIFE IS THE REPOSITORY OF THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION. This truth upholds the value of marriage and the family unit as having sacred purpose. Let us look at why conjugal love is the repository of the Christian religion. It is important to do so because in todays world it is extremely significant to uphold this great perception for it is being eroded. We begin with the awareness that the essence of Christianity is to believe that Jesus is God, that He was God born on earth and that He made his body divine in the resurrection. The heart of this truth is the Glorification process in which Jesus gradually forged perfect union between his human body and His divine soul, thus making His human divine and in the process redeeming all mankind. This is said in preface to the following.

There are two core reasons conjugal love is the repository of the Christian religion. The first reason is that worship of the Lord and conjugal love have the same root cause. The union forged in the glorification process and culminated in the resurrection is the Holy marriage, and the holy marriage in the divine human is the highest of all things and thus the core pattern from which all other things in creation receive life, meaning and form. It is the fountain from which all life springs. He is the source from which proceed all of the gifts in our soul, all of the internal skills we develop, and thus all of the joy in heaven and life. This pattern proceeds from first in the union of love and wisdom (which are the spiritual substance of life); and also in the marriage between the Lord and His church, which in the Bible is called the bride (the church) and the bride groom (the Lord). This fundamental union of love and wisdom is expressed in the form of a man and a woman. A man is a form of wisdom, and a woman is the form of love. Each has both love and wisdom, as in yin and yang, but a man is primarily a form of wisdom and woman a form of love. As love and wisdom serve together in an eternal bond, the spiritual and physical parts of a man and woman are made perfectly to bond in use to each other and to life.

All spirituality is based on the striving for union. Love and spiritual desire are processes that innately seek to form a bond. In worship we form a bond with God that can’t be taken away. We submit to Him, and perceive all good comes from. The only way to approach him and receive from Him is in humility. The conjugal relationship is a striving to bond with one’s beloved, the love of becoming one in our innermost will. As the Bible writes, ‘the two shall become one’, and ‘let no one put asunder what God has put together’. So the root of both worship and conjugal love is the union of love and wisdom.

The use of the marriage of a man and woman serves the highest purpose in life, which leads to the second reason conjugial love is the repository of the Christian religion. The use of marriage love provides for the procreation and the nurturing of the human race. The brith and raising of children is not only for this world but for the providing of all angels in the Lord’s kingdom – where one is birthed into their eternal identity and service. All angels in heaven are former humans. Only the Lord is uncreated from the beginning; and all other living things are created from Him in the birth process. Because conjugal love provides the highest use, it correspondingly is the source of the highest love and joy in humans. Only those who love and acknowledge the Lord as the divine human can have a conjugal pair, because this is what opens the internal of our soul and the gifts of our soul, and allows for profound intimacy with God and ones mate. The Lord provides that there is a conjugal mate for all those who truly desire it. A man and woman who are conjugal pairs have (what Swedenborg calls) ‘similitudes’ in their disposition, talents, and qualities of love in a marvelous way. We call these pairs soul mates.

The Conjugal sphere is the highest of all spheres from the Lord and all other spheres of love and use come from it ‘as sweet waters from the vein of a fountain’. We can see this is true from the way conjugal love is the universal cause of all brith.

Description of the Structure of the Entire Natural and Spiritual Universe And the View It Gives of How Jesus Christ Renewed Everything In the Resurrection

April 19th, 2020

There is only one God and that is Jesus the divine human. There can be only one God by the nature of what the divine is. The divine is omnipotent and omnipresent, and there can only be One who has this power and quality. If there were two then neither would be omnipotent or omnipresent, so more than one is an impossibility. These are principles of truth not abstractions. (The slightest thought of two gods, as some have falsely held on earth, is utterly abhorrent to angels and those in heavenly light). God is in the human form; He is the perfect human from creation, always has and always will be. Before the resurrection in the Old Testament in the Bible He was known as Jehovah; after the resurrection He is known as Jesus Christ who is the same one God as Jehovah, except with a new human. God had never been in the material world of earth before. By being birthed on earth and resurrected after death Jesus Christ became the new human of God. The resurrection is the ultimate birthing. The Glorification process was the refining fire by which Jesus forged the eternal bond between his human body and divine soul.

We humans are made “in His image” meaning we are human because He is human, except He is infinite and divine and we are finite and human beings with a soul. It is a universal principle that all things created by the divine repeat the form of the divine. Because His form is repeated in everything, we are in the human form, and the human form is a universal form in the universe. In its actual shape and structure the whole of the universe is a complete human in all of its parts and organs in every minutest detail. This is known as the Grand Man, which is Jesus in His macro, and so it is true that we are in the body of Jesus. Even the animal kingdom, the plant kingdom and the mineral kingdom derive their nature from the human form, though they are (each in turn) more remote forms of it.

If one were able to see the whole of heaven you would see that it is composed of heavenly societies that compose and correspond to all the parts and organs of the human body. Each society is like a city or community, self contained and has all the functions, uses, occupations, wonders of nature as do cities, communities, or nations on earth. Each society of heaven corresponds to a specific part of the human form, like the lung, heart, skin, veins, muscles, brains, etc. The part of the human form that a society corresponds relates to the character and overall purpose of the society. For instance hearing relates to the ability to understand and obey. The heart relates to the ability to know the truth from love immediately from hearing it. The skin are those who are very dense in strictly obeying doctrine, but are a protector of the precious insides. This is true in every minutest detail of the body and its innumerable parts. God is sovereign, each society is sovereign, and each human is sovereign; and, each of these in its overall structure is in the human form. In addition, each of the innumerable parts in the human, that is in each of the sovereign entities, are connected and serve an essential function to each other and to the whole. Each angel loves serving the others in their society more than themselves, so love increases exponentially the more that enter.

The Grand man is the overall form of heaven; hell is not in the Grand man, but is its opposite; hell is in the shape of a Satanic human. (The Grand Man and Satan are enormous and complex far beyond our ability to understand, and no human can see them in their whole, but we can conceptualize them in principle.) Now to see the whole structure of the universe Imagine the infinitely beautiful Grand man standing and facing the infinitely brilliant spiritual sun, (of which God Himself is in the midst). Underneath The Grand Man, upside down to him, and facing away from the Sun is Hell in the shape of Satan, a monstrous human form. Hell is the negative opposite in every way to the grand man. For every particular society in heaven that serves good, there is an opposite society in hell that serves evil. Opposite each particular society of the highest heaven (and the function it serves), there is a society in deepest hell, that serves the hellish negative of that society, and this is the same for the middle heavens, and the middle hells, and the lower heavens, and the higher hells. There is a perfect equilibrium maintained between heaven and hell in structure, but spiritually they completely repel each other like the same poles of magnets. There is no union between them. The very atmosphere in the spiritual world is composed of ‘a quality of affection. The various qualities of love and wisdom are the spiritual substance that compose the ‘air’ in each particular societies of the spiritual world. In heaven the atmosphere is of love and in hell it is of hate. So those in hell cannot even breath or survive in the heavenly atmosphere.

It is also important to see that though they are opposite forces hell has no source of its own. Those in hell receive life from God, but they have completely inverted and corrupted that life into selfish love and hate, and they have done so by their own freedom of choice, not God’s will. The soul of each person that lives while in the natural world takes on a form that is based on the way the lived, believed and loved, and when they die this form is set and cannot change. If it is capable of heavenly light they are prepared for heaven and they grow from the form of their soul at the end of life. The form, or constellation of their soul, is like a seed from which they can then grow in happiness for eternity. If they are hellish then they grow negatively from that form.

Hell, in the human figure of Satan, is beneath, and upside down to the Grand Man. Their feet are adjacent but the Satan is facing in the opposite direction from the Grand Man (away from the spiritual sun). Those who are in hell appear to them self to be standing upright, but the position just described shows their true spiritual state, which is that their feet are up and their head down. Also, between heaven and hell is a chasm which separates them, and this is the world of spirits. The world of spirits is in the spiritual world between heaven and hell, and it is a transitional place (state) that gradually prepares each person that dies for heaven or hell. The world of spirits can be a beautiful place or a scary place. Everyone there is undergoing a gradual process of vastation that prepares them for their eternal time in heaven or in hell. Vastation means to ‘be cleansed’. This means those who can receive heaven gradually go through a process of removing that in them that is from hell. Everyone has within them a ruling love and if their ruling love is hate then they are prepared for Hell. The things in them that are of heaven are vastated for these are extraneous and not part of the core love. Those with a ruling love for heaven are vastated of extraneous loves from hell. It must be so so they can be in heaven or hell and its atmosphere without duplicity. Each person in the world of spirits is gradually gravitating to the east or west, the east being toward heaven and the west toward hell.

Life on earth is in perfect equilibrium between the forces of heaven and hell. Because heaven and hell are of the spirit they are outside time and space and can be present to people on earth and to people in the world of spirits. The whole structure of creation rests on this equilibrium for it is the fulcrum upon which human freedom exists! The end purpose of this structure is in the service of humans, (which includes the spirits in the world of spirits (former humans), and angels (former humans)). There is no other way for a person to have life and consciousness other than to be in freedom. The equilibrium between heaven and hell that provides freedom is another expression of how the human form is a universal form in the universe.  The world of spirits is somewhat like the natural world in that in it there is good and evil, but people’s abilities are much more refined there, and one’s purpose there is more refined, that is, to be vastated in preparation for heaven or hell. The world of spirits is a sort master growth processing place in which the falsities of thought and self perception are removed so that one can come into their true self. This is of course for those going to heaven. Hell is for those who have not prepared them self on earth to be able to receive this process. They refuse and reject every prompting and effort of the angels to the point they choose to be in hell, not necessarily consciously but by their actions and because their ruling love is hate. The world of spirits looks in every way very much like earth life, but the people don’t have physical bodies, but spiritual bodies, and as they gradually realize this they see that their faculties are many times greater and more astute than they were in the world.

In the resurrection when Jesus became one with God He became the innermost of all things, and what is the innermost is also the outermost. This means that his presence is immediate with everyone and all things and He became the Grand Man! In achieving the resurrection through the glorification process Jesus defied all the laws of physics. He merged his material body with the divine and made it spiritual. He raised it into the spiritual world. This can never happen, other than by the divine; and it will never happen again for what the divine does is eternal by nature. It is not so much that He defied the laws of physics but that He became the law of the universe from love. This is what it means to enter the innermost. The one who defies the undefiable laws of physics can only do so by becoming divine order; He becomes the innermost and outermost of the universe. God from the beginning is divine truth and love. What He did in being born on earth is prophesied in the Bible from beginning to end. Prophecy in the Bible is divine truth because it comes for the will of God. In being born on earth and growing to manhood Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies of the Bible thus became and upgraded divine truth.  By doing this Jesus Christ renewed all things, and now has immediate relationship and presence to everyone and everything. He exponentially increased the light available in the natural and spiritual worlds.

Correspondences Between the Known Principles of Physics In the Natural Sun and the Holy Nature of the One Spiritual Sun

April 15th, 2020

The heat and light of the natural sun corresponds to love and wisdom from the spiritual sun. We know the sun provides heat and light without which nothing could live. Suns are the source of all energy and raw material for the entire natural world. All the suns throughout the universe are the source of heat and light for their respective solar systems, and beyond. In the spiritual world there is only one sun and it is the one source of all life. It is the origin of life, and creates the substance of life; the fundamental substance of life being love and wisdom from the Lord in the midst of the spiritual sun.

The natural suns are made of matter, are in time and space, and are innumerable, whereas there is only one spiritual sun. This one sun is the one source of everything. The reality that there is one spiritual sun and innumerable natural suns in the universe is a function of correspondence, in that the natural sun cannot possibly reflect the infinite presence of the spiritual sun by size, so it corresponds by innumerable numbers. The reason for this is that in the natural world there is time and space, while in the spiritual world everything is based on state of being, or quality of love.

Science’s ability to penetrate some of the secrets of physics that occur in the sun offers the opportunity to look deep into potential correspondences. Science shows that everything that happens on earth occurs by a process, and correspondingly Swedenborg demonstrates that everything that occurs in the spiritual world occurs by a process. It is very important to grasp this concept, and we can only do so by practicing on particular examples. Humans have an ingrained habit of ‘magical thinking’ when it comes to the spiritual world, meaning we tend to think that things just happen there, that God makes them by the wave of the hand. But we know everything with humans is a matter of gradual growth, and accomplished reciprocally; and that everything in nature requires a process. It is the same in heaven: in heaven people don’t just sit on a cloud and bask in God’s light, but experience fulfillment through being useful in all the same type of occupations we have here. Everything is relational in both worlds. Only in heaven people passionately love serving others more than themselves.

Let’s look at the example of the sun again. Einstein discovered that the source of the sun’s power is nuclear fusion. The sun’s mass is so enormous its gravity causes unfathomable pressure and heat in its core. The pressure and heat cause the atoms to accelerate to incredible speeds at close proximity. Hydrogen atoms normally repel each other, but the heat and pressure at the core is so enormous it causes the Hydrogen atoms to smash together and split, forming a new element – helium. In the process they release heat, and light as photons, and the massive power of the explosion seeks to expand to the surface of the sun. This is nuclear fusion, the engine in the suns core. The sun is anything but static; within the sun there is a constant tension, a raging battle between gravities crushing inward force, and nuclear fusion’s immense expansive fire. But the two forces settle into an equilibrium that lasts for billions of years, and together provide all the elements in the universe, and the heat and light that sustain life.

It is a universal principle that that which is created by the source has in it the inclination to repeat the form of the source. The master example of this is that humans are made in the image of God. The equilibrium between the forces of gravity and nuclear fusion in the sun defines the form of the sun, and because the sun is the source, the form of equilibrium is repeated in everything that exists. For anything to exist it has to have a form, and anything that has form has some kind of equilibrium that is the cause for that form. Based on this principle Swedenborg writes that just as there is an infinite largeness there is also an infinite minuteness. There is nothing so minute that there is not something smaller that is the substance within it. For instance an atom is a form that has within it electrons, neutrons and protons spinning around. As science keeps discovering, even the protons and neutrons have smaller things that compose them, and there are smaller things yet which compose these, and so on. It is beyond our ability to comprehend infinite minuteness, but based on the principle of form, substance and equilibrium we can see it must be true.

Equilibrium is in everything we see. The human body and every organ in it has a certain equilibrium between the inside forces of blood pressure and muscle tension, and the outside forces of gravity and atmospheric pressure. A leaf on a tree has equilibrium in a similar way. Anything we might look at is in a state of equilibrium, a chair, a light bulb, a cell, a fiber, anything, because they have a form, and substance inside it. The equations of Newton and Einstein work within equilibrium. The state of equilibrium can always change, for instance if a bottle is broken, but its pieces settle into another state of equilibrium. Swedenborg writes:

For any thing to have existence there must be an equilibrium of all things. Without equilibrium there is no action and reaction; for equilibrium is between two forces, one acting and the other reacting, and the state of rest resulting from like action and reaction is called equilibrium. In the natural world there is an equilibrium in all things and in each thing. It exists in a general way even in the atmosphere, wherein the lower parts react and resist in proportion as the higher parts act and press down. Again, in the natural world there is an equilibrium between heat and cold, between light and shade, and between dryness and moisture, the middle condition being the equilibrium. There is also an equilibrium in all the subjects of the three kingdoms of nature, the mineral, the vegetable, and the animal; for without equilibrium in them nothing can come forth and have permanent existence (Heaven and Hell, 589).

Another correspondence we can see in the sun has to do with the fact that the divine contains infinite variety, and is the source of life. From the divine human in the spiritual sun manifests the infinite variety and continual abundance of life, similarly, there is nothing that exists in nature that is exactly the same as anything else. For instance, science shows that snowflakes can be very similar, but never exactly the same. It is the same with everything. There are no two human beings that are the same, or ever will be.

To see how suns are the source of all things in nature, and the cause of variety, lets look more deeply at what happens in the sun. Scientists teach that the nuclear fusion taking place in the sun is the cause of all the elements of the universe. A sun like ours is only big enough to produce helium, but stars bigger produce such massive gravity that they have enough heat and pressure to create heavier elements such as sulfur and iron. These heavier elements are only created in supernovas. The elements are made by the incredible heat and energy released when the supernova explodes. Scientists report that the heaviest of elements, such as Gold, are made by the even more enormous explosions that occur when two neutron stars collide. This is why the heavier Elements are more rare. These incredible explosions send the elements out into the universe. And from these elements and their infinite combinations, all the things in the universe originate – planets, galaxies, new stars, and all living things. Scientists describe supernovas as the mother of all substances and objects in the universe. From this information we get an idea of the essential correspondence between God as the source of all things and their infinite variety, and the sun as the source of the abundance and variety in nature.

In my experience correspondence never fails; we simply have to dig into understanding them. Below is another interesting correspondence. In this correspondence we can compare the dynamics between; one, the divine in the spiritual sun and the reception of Him where angels live; and, two, the natural sun and the dynamics of how humans on earth receive light and heat from the sun. Swedenborg writes:

Divine love in the spiritual world appears to the sight of angels like the sun, as far distant from them as the sun of our world is from men. If therefore God, who is in the midst of that sun, were to come close to angels, they would perish just as men would if the sun of the world came close to them, for it is equally burning. For this reason there are constant controls which modify and moderate the burning heat of that love, so that its radiation should not reach heaven undiluted, since this would consume the angels. When therefore the Lord makes His presence more immediately felt in heaven, the irreligious beneath heaven begin to complain, suffering torture and fainting, so that they take refuge in caves and fissures in the mountains (TCR, 691).

This corresponds to the fact that where there is life on a planet there must be the right distance from the sun, and also, a certain delicate balance of characteristics on the planet that protect the life there. Earth being at the perfect distance from the sun is a clear correspondence, but there are many more subtle comparisons to be made. For instance scientist have discovered how essential the magnetic field of the earth is to protecting life against the power of solar flares and radiation. (When solar flares are too big people on earth complain that they take out our electrical systems.) The motion of molten magma inside the earth causes a rather weak magnetic field around earth, but this magnetic field is strong enough to form a barrier around the earth that deflects harmful solar radiation. Also, just the right tilt of the earth’s axis creates the seasons around the globe, which is important for many things, especially maintaining moderate temperatures, a variety of climates for life, and especially a stable atmosphere. These factors, plus just the right amount of water on earth, produce a healthy atmosphere that provides essential protection from the sun’s radiation. The moon provides essential protection for earth by stabilizing its rotation on its axis; without this life would be thrown into dramatic cycles of destruction, mostly due to sudden huge temperature changes, and loss of a stable atmosphere. All of these factors, and many more, work together to maintain a delicate balance; they correspond to the ‘constant controls which modify and moderate’ the burning heat and light of the spiritual sun from harming angels. I am not a physicist, but we can see these correspondences readily enough on the level of principle. The more detailed one’s knowledge of science the deeper the correspondences that can be seen.

Now we look to the ultimate source of equilibrium that makes it a universal correspondence, and demonstrates the connectedness of all things. Inside the spiritual sun there is also an infinite, dynamic marriage that is the source of life. This is the Holy marriage between the Lord’s divine essence and his divine human. This is the Holy of Holies. From this marriage radiates Holy fire, which is the cause of the spiritual sun’s light and heat (wisdom and love). The powerful forces we described inside the natural sun give us a glimpse, by correspondences, of the unfathomably powerful union inside the spiritual son. The equilibrium in the natural sun corresponds to the Holy marriage in the spiritual sun; except, of course, the forces inside the natural son are not alive; they are material and energy based, but in the spiritual sun life comes from the source itself, the divine human, Jesus Christ. This is the mother of all correspondences.

“In the Sun there, which is from Himself, is Divine fire, which is the Divine good of the Divine love. From that Sun is Divine light, which is Divine truth from Divine good”. (AC 8644).

“That the union in the spiritual sun is holy, and in its interiors most holy, is very evident from the fact that in every detail of it there is the heavenly marriage, that is, the marriage of good and truth, thus heaven; and that in every detail of the inmost sense there is the marriage of the Lord’s Divine Human with His kingdom and church; nay, in the supreme sense there is the union of the Divine Itself and the Divine Human in the Lord” (AC 6343).

It is as if His body (Jesus) is the candle and his essence (God) the wick, and the marriage of them produces the Holy fire from which radiates infinite love and wisdom. This bond, or marriage, and resulting Holy fire, causes the form of the spiritual sun. The Holy bond between Jesus and God was forged (in all wonder, pain, joy, and beauty) in the glorification process while Jesus was on earth. In the resurrection the Lords body was made divine, and merged with the divine essence. What radiates from the spiritual sun around the Lord is the universal spiritual substance of life, – love and wisdom – just as heat and light radiate from the natural sun. Love and wisdom are spiritual in nature; indeed they are the indivisible spiritual substance of life, not abstractions.

Light – It’s Meaning And Its Source: It’s Role To the Heart of Devotion

April 6th, 2020

Light corresponds to wisdom. This is often used as a metaphor, but it is an actual truth. They correspond in their image and function – they both shine and illuminate, and are both in union, light with heat and wisdom with love. Light is natural and wisdom is spiritual. From the natural sun radiates heat and light which sustain all life. From the spiritual sun, (which there is only one of and it is above heaven), radiates love and wisdom. For in the midst of the spiritual sun is the lord. In him is the Holy Marriage between his divine body and divine soul, and from this marriage proceeds Holy Fire as from a fountain, or as from a ‘spring of living water’. From the Holy Fire is generated the spiritual substance of life, love and wisdom. Love and wisdom sustain all life, and also are the containers of an infinite variety of spiritual gifts and qualities of love, and specific principles of wisdom. We tend to think of love and wisdom as abstractions, but they are not. The human soul is like an organ, the highest form in the universe because it is made in God’s image. Just as the eye is an organ that receives light, or the ear receives sound, the human soul is made (by the infinite genius of God) to receive love and wisdom. We receive love by our God given faculty of being able to will, and wisdom by our God given faculty of being able to understand. These are the essentials of having life, identity, self-hood and freedom. We can perceive that love and wisdom are spiritual substance simply by observing our affections. We can feel the affections are real in our body and soul – they cause sensation, emotions and thought. There are affections of many kinds, and all thought is proceeded by affection. An internal desire initiates thinking a thought. The human soul is corrupted by evil, so we have the capacity for both good and evil. We can invert the spiritual substance from God into its opposite – hate and falsity. (But this is a whole other story). The love and wisdom that proceeds from God is always Good. It is goodness itself in all of its innumerable particulars. So we human beings are receptacle. Some people think this is a diminishing thing to say, but it’s really not. The incalculable value of seeing this is that we perceive we are truly in a position of humility to God, and, in seeing this we can open to feel how He loves us beyond words. If one does feel it is diminishing to be a receptacle then so be it if it helps to humble ourself. God can only be approached in humility. This is not weakness, but takes strength, faith and love – and returns them magnified. It is often very hard to do because we have all kinds of feeling and thoughts in the way – of anger, doubt, fear, resignation, hate and many others. So it takes some time, focus and desire – and being in the Word. The Word is divine truth from Him, and divine truth, is the light that illumines our mind.

The Story of the Woman Who Had ‘a Flow of Blood’: Principles Demonstrating the Transformation of Her Soul

March 24th, 2020

From the Bible, Luke 8: But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him. 43 Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44 came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped.

45 And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?”

When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”

46 But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.” 47 Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.

48 And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”

Stories in the Bible contain wondrous principles of life and truth to live by. When the woman touched His robe, Jesus knew it for he felt ‘power go out of Him’. Jesus has perception of the natural and spiritual world at the same time.  To touch is to connect, and because of her yearning and belief His power was received and healed her. Jesus is power. His power is entirely from good, which is the greatest and true power. God, the soul of Jesus, is in the midst of the spiritual sun which radiates love and wisdom and sustains all the universe and life. The soul of us human beings are receptacles of life from him. The woman yearned for him in her suffering, she loved him. She was beginning to know who He is, and all this made her receptive to Him. So she received according to her faith; power flowed into her. The relationship between Jesus and man is reciprocal, and to the degree there is mutual love and understanding a bond is formed, if  there is no reception, then there is no bond. People like the pharisees can’t receive, ‘their sin remains’, because they think they know better, and hate Him for being the real thing. This closes the internals of their soul and they can not receive.

Swedenborg often writes, ‘For on the lowest levels of good and truth which spring from the Divine there is might and power’. By lowest level he means the material world. The material or natural world is a container and foundation of good and truth so in its expression at the point of touch it comes into its full power, because the point of touch is where it is transferred, given and received. It is like water traveling through a large pipe, but when the pipe narrows it gains more pressure and shoots out strong. To this point Swedenborg further explains; ‘the external holds all the interior things in their order, and in their form and connection, insomuch that if the external were removed, the internal things would be dispersed; for internal things not only cease in the external, but they are also together in it”. This is a function of the universal principle that life springs from the union of the natural and the spiritual, and this is no more profoundly found than in the fact God became human in the physical world and through the course of his life made His human divine. For humans, like the woman who touched the hem of his robe ,the moment of union is an epiphany.

The miracles Jesus performed for the ‘poor’ (this word is meant more in the sense of the spiritually poor, those who don’t have truth but yearn for it), are of course wondrous and involve this internal process, but in terms of faith miracles are an external measure. The greatest miracle is the transformation of one’s soul. Jesus admonished the people for always wanting signs and miracles because He wanted internal transformation, not external, but He knew it was a step. To any one with any reason the miracles show that Jesus is divine, but most still did not accept that He was the Messiah, much less God. The miraculous healing of the body was a great mercy for those that had a measure of belief, but for those observing they were a sensational measure that did not necessarily change a persons heart. Miracles compelled people to believe and for this reason miracles are usually not allowed. They were used to seed a people who had become very external in nature. They were allowed in the time of Jesus and after for a while, for the  very reason Jesus came was that evil had overrun heaven and the earth and caused a disequilibrium between heaven and hell. In the disequilibrium evil could compel people and spirits to hell, which is the most awful of things. Miracles were a counter-balance to this in that miracles compelled people to faith. Evil had accumulated in the world and in the spiritual world to the point it would have overrun the universe if it were not corrected. God, as Jesus, suffered himself to be born on earth to defeat all the forces of evil that had run out of control, to teach the people how to be in genuine faith and love again, and to restore the integrity of heaven.

The verse, ‘she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately’, is very important. The woman was seen by Jesus into her whole soul, and thought it was frightening she accepted it and loved it. ‘Trembling’ indicates a change of being, and so it is an intense and seminal experience. In this it is important for the change that one speak from their own self and bear the truth honestly so that there is complete transfer and ownership. It is also significant that there were witnesses to hear it and see it. This is similar to the purpose of witnessing in weddings where the parties declare their consent in the presence of witnesses. This confirms in community and in the world the change of state in the woman’s soul, and thus establishes it. All of these verses speak to the transformation of her soul – the greatest miracle of all – for it leads to salvation in heaven, which is God’s end purpose for all.

Why Is it Significant To Explore Deep Issues Concerning the Lord? How Does the Way We Conceive of God and Love Him Effect Our Place in Heaven?

March 15th, 2020

Why is it significant to explore deep issues concerning the Lord?

The deeper the conception and love we have for the Lord while here on earth the more wonders and truths will be open to us in heaven. Here is an extraordinary condition Swedenborg relates about his journeys in heaven that gives us insight to this process. Swedenborg tells that in his journeys to heaven he could only visit realms that he had some knowledge of rooted in his memory. He says that if he did not have knowledge in his memory of a place or the thought of a thing he could not go to that realm in heaven. This shows how profoundly connected the mind is to heaven! I believe this is a consequence of the universal principle that the natural world is the foundation of the spiritual world, and for anything to exist it has to have a root in each. The human form is a little heaven in potential, and since the whole of heaven is in the human form, all things are connected by correspondence between the micro and the macro; – including access to ‘places’ – which in the spiritual world means ‘state of being’.
To the degree we understand and love the particulars of how Jesus redeemed all of humanity, (and redeemed ourself), seeds are planted in our mind and soul. In the spiritual world these seeds of perception are set – their constellation can no longer change – but, to whatever extent it reached from there it will grow. The more intimate the love we developed of the Lord the more expansive are the roots, stem, and shoots that grow from the constellation. In the light of heaven, it gradually blooms into a great tree with leaves, fruits, and flowers – far beyond what we could ever imagine. We leave our former life behind, and, in wholeness, move forward into ever-increasing joy. These seeds are avenues that lead down expansive paths of joyous wonder ever deeper and deeper. Great mysteries are opened that lead to greater and greater mysteries! The single greatest factor that forms our soul and determines where we go is the belief we have of God and the love we have for Him. It is essential we understand He is the divine human, not a spirit or a cloud or supreme being or something like that. The later has very little correspondence with heaven and the universe – for remember heaven and the universe themselves are in the human form – known in the macro as the Grand Man! So we are, in truth, in His body. Thus, our conception of the Divine human moves us into particular places (states of being) in heaven! God, the Lord is a genius. The Bible gives us intimate knowledge of His astounding acts of love and wisdom, and His teaching. In the internal sense from beginning to end the Bible relates how the Lord made His human divine – the greatest part of the greatest story ever told. As long as we make it to heaven we will be in great joy and where we belong, but there are many degrees to heaven and to joy. There is an article (one of many) in this blog I wrote detailing the Glorification process called: “Source Superhero – The Extraordinary Brilliance of the Glorification Process of Jesus: Mystery of Mysteries”, that you will love.

A Description of What An Apocalypse Really Is And How Evangelicals Misinterpret the Second Coming; And, How it Is that In Truth We Are Now In the Good News of the New Jerusalem

December 19th, 2019

“Therefore my people have gone into captivity, Because they have no knowledge; Their honorable men are famished,
And their multitude dried up with thirst. Therefore Sheol has enlarged itself. And opened its mouth beyond measure”. (Isaiah 5: 13,14)

A time of Loss of equilibrium, otherwise known as an apocalypse, has happened three times in history – at the flood in the time of Noah, before and at the Incarnation of Jesus, and at the time of the second coming. These are times of true apocalypse, because once the imbalance begins to go toward evil there is no power to stop it, other than God. In these times it’s amazing to see how God follows his own rules of divine order, meaning there has to be a process of how to overcome the problem in the natural and the spiritual world in tandem. God corrected it differently each time.
Loss of Equilibrium is when accumulation of evil becomes greater than that of good in the natural and spiritual world. In this condition to the degree there is an imbalance there is a measure of loss of freedom for man, which is a horrible thing. The imbalance is always toward evil because evil is always the initiator and aggressor of attack. In normal circumstances, (by normal I mean when there is equilibrium), neither demons or angels can compel a person toward heaven or hell; they can influence and persuade but they cannot violate free will. In the disequilibrium evil gains the ability to be able to compel people to evil which is the cause of the horror of a time of Apocalypse. Once disequilibrium starts it will only increase for it is the eternal desire of hell to destroy mankind and turn them into demons. Human beings by themselves cannot fight the arts of hell in a disequilibrium, only the power and love and presence of God can help one fight it. Those who are in this love can be protected. Our acknowledgement of Him and our love of Him receives His presence within. The relationship between God and man is reciprocal in this way.
In the centuries before Christ there was a long decline in the Jewish religion that resulted in dire separation from God. In the accumulating darkness, as people died and entered the spiritual world, evil spirits intercepted even the good through artful deceptions and led them into the cities of their false heaven. This caused an overabundance toward the evil realm. These false heavens with their deceptive leaders were bringing good people to their side in great abundance. (Apparently most of these in their heart did not become evil, but were controlled and manipulated by evil. I think God knew their heart and protected because it was the just thing to do.) Those in the real heaven were greatly distressed that good people were deceived and held in these cities. They lamented the loss and beseeched the Lord to release them. Swedenborg describes how the leaders of these cities sometimes posed as religious leaders, or even family members to persuade people to their side. These pseudo-heavens were below heaven in the world of spirits. The spirits who were held in these false heavens are known in the Bible as the captives, which I have written about more on my blog. The over-accumulation of spirits (people who have died) in these cities of pseudo-heavens caused a dark cloud, as it were, between heaven and earth. Understanding this is key because it is a significant part of the process that caused disequilibrium. The increasing cities of the false heaven actually obstructed the reception of heavenly influx to humanity on earth, thus accelerating darkness. This is what is meant by “Sheol has enlarged itself and opened its mouth beyond measure.” As the false heavens grew larger, the dark cloud of interference between heaven and earth grew greater. The less heavenly light there was for humanity on earth, the more power evil gained. Here is another verse that refers to the loss of equilibrium between heaven and hell: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (John 6:12). This verse refers to a battle and evil forces infiltrating and occupying ‘high places,’ meaning heaven. As the forces of evil grew, they were like a marauding army ransacking the first levels of heaven, and taking residence; constantly deceiving the people in the world of spirits and the angels in the lower heaven in a thousand horrid ways. Matthew describes this when he says, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force” (Mat. 11:12).

But here is the great good news. The second coming has been accomplished. We are now in the ‘Church of the New Jerusalem’ that is spoken of in Revelation. In accomplishing the second coming the Lord promised He would never allow a disequilibrium to happen again. What is so significant about this is that it profoundly impacts our Christian world view. Many evangelicals feel and predict that there is still an apocalypse to come, the events of the millennium and all that implies could come any time. This expectation involves a great deal of gloom and doom. It is often preached that terrible, dark times are to come, that Christ is to come back on the earth and lead a great parade on a white horse, and the chosen will be raised to heaven and so on. (In reality the ‘chosen being raised to heaven’ refers to the great joy of the captives who the Father released from the false heavens – this is known as the harvest time). But for hundreds of years and still now-a-days people are constantly conjecturing that so and so was, or is the anti-Christ, and various world events are ‘signs of the millennium’. Some say Hitler was the anti-Christ. Now liberals say Trump is, and conservatives say Obama was, but none of this is the case.
In the Church of the New Jerusalem the state of things is that there is great good news, but there is no free ride. The good news is Christ is present to us directly and immediately and He will never not be so. There is no coming apocalypse. The difficult news is that this world of earth-life is always in the balance between good and evil. As I have said many times before, in this world we suffer and have joy and learn, because we are in freedom, and we need to be reformed and repentant to remove evil inclination in us. Freedom is the double-edged sword that is both the means of salvation and the cause of hell! This life is both amazingly wonderful and one hell of a bitch. Hell cannot compel us and heaven can’t give us a free ride. In today’s world there is a lot of genuine charity in the church, and there is also a lot of falsity, ill-will, and alienation in the world. We have the Trump movement, and we have the globalist/socialist movement battling it out. That’s the nature of equilibrium, it goes up and down, and all around, but we’re are still free working things out. We are protected by Christ – should we choose to accept it. In that we can always trust!

Revealing Something Wonderful About Names in the Bible – and About the Name of God

December 2nd, 2019

In the Bible the word “Name” doesn’t only mean the name of the person, but it refers to the quality of a person’s soul, the whole of that person’s loves and talents. In the case of God, by the name of – ‘Jehovah’, the ‘Lord’, and ‘Jesus Christ’ – is meant the whole infinite Kaleidoscope of truths and loves of which He is the source and for which He is worshiped. The Power in Name of Jesus Christ is in loving and understanding who He is and what he did for us.
The encounter between the resurrected Jesus and Mary Magdalen at the tomb reveals something wonderful about names. In John the scripture reads:
“Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.
They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”
“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.
He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”
Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).”
The moment Jesus said her name Mary knew who He was, and she knew that she was seen. Her eyes were opened and her soul was opened. In saying her name Jesus saw into the whole of her soul – all of her goals, abilities, weaknesses, and her great love. It is a terribly intimate, scary and wonderful thing to be fully seen, loved and accepted, in being seen, and accepting it her soul was magnified and healed.
Jesus is present to each of us, He sees what we’re going through, what we love, what we need and when we are ready. We on our part need to turn to Him and seek Him, be willing to have our hearts opened – and to accept Him as our inner teacher as Mary did. This scene with Mary reminds me of a similar scene in the story of the Road to Ameus. In the story Jesus walks along with two men but they do not know who He is. As they walk Jesus teaches them about all the scriptures concerning Himself and His mission. When they come to their home they sit together for a meal, and Jesus breaks bread – and at that moment suddenly their eyes were opened and they knew who He was. And they said to each other, “Oh how our hearts burned as he taught about the whole of the scriptures concerning Himself!”
Swedenborg tells that in entering heaven a person (angel) is given a new name, one that corresponds to the quality of their nature and ruling love. This is reflected in what often happens in the Bible where a person or prophet is given a new name as they come into their own, just as Jesus did for Peter and Paul at their respective moments of enlightenment. Peter was called ‘the rock’, and ‘Simon’; and Paul was called ‘Saul’. The same thing is done in many native cultures after a person goes through the rite of passage, or a ritual of awakening.
To know is to love and to love is to know.

35 “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36 like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak. 39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning”. To desire God is the beginning of perception to see. This verse means what it sounds like, that is, be ready and alert to the urging of God and the needs around you, and persevere in trusting Him. We can then feel the  prompting of God within us, and if we have the desire we can see the movement of God in our community and nation. Then our will is moved to respond to support the people and leaders who are fighting for him.

In the parable of the ten virgins the ones that had oil in their lamps entered the wedding, because they had the union of love and awareness for the Lord in their heart, and so, were prepared to enter heaven. The ones who had lamps but no oil had the form but not the substance, meaning they had faith, but not faith in union with charity. Lamps burning is a powerful image of the union of love and awareness together, – which Mary of Bethany is the greatest example of. Mary was on fire with the love for Jesus and the awareness that He must fulfill His mission and be killed on the cross. This means she knew that He was God and had the power to do what He had been teaching everyone, which is that he would resurrect on the third day. She, no doubt, did not know how or even why, but her love for Him, and what He had done for her, elevated her perception so that she had faith that He would do as he said. The disciples believed he was he Messiah and the son of God, but she was the first to see that he was God Himself. This perception is the most essential of all for faith because it is the truth and brings his presence closest to us. Mary’s action of anointing Him before His burial and her outpouring of love shows she had this awareness. And what show it more than anything is that Jesus memorialized her love, faith and action for all time.

“Like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet”. Wedding in its highest sense refers to the resurrection, because it is the consummation of the Holy marriage; it is the culmination of the glorification process wherein Jesus merged His human body with His divine soul, thus making His human divine and taking it into heaven. ‘Servants waiting for the master’ are those who learned to have faith in His divine, who believe in the resurrection and commit their heart to Him. In Jesus’s time the first to be initiated into this awareness were those who received baptism from John the Baptist, because these showed faith and became receptacles of heaven. The connection with heaven had been lost and this is why Jesus came down. John had to initiate the external baptism as the new correspondences with heaven; John performed the external baptism to pave the way before the internal baptism of Jesus could be received – this process had to take place in this way – because the external is always the foundation of the internal; and, because correspondences are the essential structure that creates the connection between heaven and earth. So those who received John’s baptism were the first who were ‘servants waiting for the master’. The Baptism of John established the new correspondence between heaven and earth. There had to be this correspondence for man to have knowledge of heaven and God; if not mankind on earth would spiritually die. Without a living correspondence mankind would be overrun by evil and spiritually and physically fall into abysmal darkness. The birth of Jesus was the two edged sword that both ended the Jewish nation as the means of correspondence, (as it had existed for centuries in the Old Testament) and established the new Christian church.  Those waiting on the Lord are those in the true new Christian Church.

“So that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him”. The Lord is always turned to us, the door is always open; and we must turn to Him, meaning we have the capability by the faculty of our will to receive him. The will is of love and we use our mind to understand its feelings and guide them intelligently. To the degree we acknowledge the Lord and come to love and understand Him is the degree to which we can receive Him. The relationship between God and man is reciprocal in this way. He influences us to respond to is urging and we must incline our heart and mind to receive it.

“It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them”. The soul of man is truly fed in a spiritual way by genuine spiritual principles or truths. Our soul is an organ, a complete spiritual organ in the human form. Just as the eye is an organ that receives light, the soul is an organ that receives love and wisdom from the Lord. Those who learn to have internal faith in Jesus, no matter what they have been through, He will restore them. Truths of the Word, spiritual principles, honesty, trust and humility restore the soul of man. We know that the body receives food to nourish it, and that the food taken in needs to be digested. In a similar way Jesus gradually softens and regenerates our soul with trials of life and true spiritual principles that heal the traumas in our psyche, removes falsities, and brings in light to our mind and love to our heart.

“But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into”. This refers to the universal spiritual principle that we can only receive God to the degree we reject evil. Jesus cannot help us if we don’t actively will to resist, remove and reject evil. We all have hereditary evil from head to toe, which allows us to be tempted. It is our job to resist and He will help us to remove the evil as we become aware of it as best we can. To the degree we entertain and act on evil God cannot enter us. As the Bible says, ‘You don’t put new wine in an old wine skin lest it burst’.

Both the rich and the poor are in heaven. Rich in the Bible in the internal sense does not refer to money but to those who have a lot of information but do not have love for the Lord. When the Bible says ‘it is harder for a rich man to enter heaven than for a camel to go through the eye of an needle’ it means that those who think they know it all and are full of pride block themselves from heaven. Poor refers to those who do not know of the Word and its truths but yearn to know. The Lord providentially provides for those who yearn truly.

The Meaning of ‘I Will Create Rivers in the Desert’: Description of the Internal Mechanism By Which Jesus Restored All Mankind.

August 6th, 2019

“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway in the wilderness. I will create rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
Before Jesus was born, (and the reason He was born on earth), was that there was a devastating darkness that had overtaken earth and humanity. There was a disequilibrium between heaven and hell where the forces of hell were beginning to over run the world of spirits and the lower parts of heaven. For many years evil spirits had been posing as good leaders in the world of spirits similar to the way the Jewish religious leaders had been using religion to control the people on earth. The leaders in the spiritual world were intercepting those who died who were good or bad and bringing them into their societies that they said were heaven, but it was a false heaven. The great number of people captured in these societies are known as ‘the captives’ in the Bible. These false heavens were causing a dark cloud between earth and heaven and an overabundance of evil. This dark cloud was choking-off the influx from heaven and corrupting the correspondential connections that are necessary for man to be sustained. The Jewish church had long since become completely external, yet the Lord used it as the means of correspondence between earth and heaven as long as he could by making it the ‘holy external’. But this was not sustainable, it was a mere shadow of light and charity – so Jesus had to be born. The words ‘wilderness’ and ‘desert’ refer to the state of desolation of the church and charity on earth. The words ‘pathway’ and ‘river’ refer to the influx and correspondences being rebuilt between. The connection between heaven and earth had atrophied, like a river going dry or an electrical circuit that had lost its nodes. All this and much more mean that whole parts in the body of the Grand Man, if we were able to view it, were dying, were going grey so to speak. This means that in man the spiritual internals were shutting off, the wiring so to speak in the psyche that connect to heaven were dying. By being born on earth and the growth he went through day by day, jesus was restoring the pathways in the psyche of man that make it possible to connect with heaven. He rewired and activated the channels in the mind of man by his acts of love on earth. There has to be a node on earth and a node in heaven to complete the circuit. He rebuilt this internal connection, in all of its complex particulars, day by day by overcoming the powers of evil and the temptations with which they continually assaulted Him. He overcame them by exercising acts of love and wisdom that created and re-established union. Wilderness and desert in general mean the desolation of charity in the church and the resulting loss of correspondence and influx between the mind of man and heaven. This caused the functions in the body of the Grand Man, which is heaven, to atrophy. But by being born on earth God received a new human – Jesus. As jesus went through the gradual process of making his Human divine, known as the glorification process, he was also making all the functions and structures of the Grand Man whole and sound and brilliant. In doing this He became the source and innermost of everything; He became the fountain from which all meaning, regeneration and love spring, so that all things immediately or remotely correspond to him. We are truly, in every sense of the Word, in the body of Jesus.

        Swedenborg Writes:
“In relation to man the Grand Man is the whole of the Lord’s heaven, but in the highest sense the Grand Man is the Lord Himself; for it is from Him that heaven has its being, and to Him everything there corresponds. Since the human race had become utterly corrupted on account of a life of evil and consequent false persuasions, and since at that time the lower things with man were beginning to take control over the higher, that is, natural things were taking control over spiritual, and as a result Jehovah or the Lord was no longer able to flow in by way of the Grand Man, that is, by way of heaven, and bring those things back into proper order, it was consequently necessary for the Lord to come into the world. It was necessary because in so doing He assumed a human and made this Divine. Then by means of that human made Divine He restored order so that the whole of heaven might have reference to Himself as the one and only Man and might correspond to Him alone, once those who were under the influence of evil and so of falsity had been trodden down and so cast outside the Grand Man. This explains why people in heaven are said to be ‘in the Lord’, indeed in His body; for the Lord is the All of heaven, and being in Him every single angel there is assigned to a particular province and function” (AC 3637).
