What Happens When We Enter the Spiritual World and the Process By Which the Lord Determines Our Salvation

March 15th, 2022

Someone asked – “Is there anything like purgatory? Where do souls go after death to wait for judgement. Or do they go to Heaven/Hell and come out on the day of judgement?”

Between heaven and hell there is the World of spirits, that is a place of preparation for heaven or hell where people who die are for a period of time. Revelation reads:
“He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last”. (Revelation, 22:1-13)

The lines about the unjust remaining unjust and the holy remaining holy, refer to profound principles of the spiritual world. The love in one’s heart and the beliefs we live by form the end state of our soul when we die. What this love is when we die, it will continue to be in the spiritual world. The form of our soul is determined by the concordance between our external self and internal self during our life on earth. The greater the harmony between the two, the more sincere, genuine, and loving we have been in life. For instance, a person whose face and manner reflects what is in their mind and soul is in harmony. As the Bible says of Philip, “He was a man without guile.” A deceptive internal self hides behind the external self and, if this is from hate and ill-will, the soul takes on a hellish form. Once in the spiritual world, the pattern of this concordance can no longer change. This is because in life there is constant striving (or lack of striving) for union between the natural and spiritual of every person. To the degree this union is formed during life the constellation if formed. But after death the natural/material is no more and the formation stops, and the constellation formed, then, doesn’t change, This is what is meant by the phrase in the Bible, “In the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be” (Ecclesiatstes 11:3).

This does not mean a person’s state doesn’t change in the spiritual world, but it can only change based on the form of the concordance. The concordance is based on the internal bond we made with the good of God, so in heavenly light we grow and flourish to the degree the pattern of the concordance is receptive to it; and this pattern is unique with everyone. The pattern of concordance that forms our soul is like a seed that grows in the light of heaven if it is good; if it is bad it shrivels and rejects the light of heaven. The reason the form of the concordance can only change while we are in the world is that life in the world is part material and part spiritual, and change in form is birthed from the marriage of the material and the spiritual. The mind is part material and part spiritual also, so, by doing and thinking, by believing and loving, we manifest the form of our soul.

Jesus doesn’t ‘throw’ anyone into hell. People do it to themself, by what they choose to love. In the spiritual world before anyone enters heaven or hell they go through a rigorous process called vastation (cleansing) which may be mild or very intense. (This takes place in the ‘world of spirits’ which is between heaven and hell.) The purpose of vastation is ultimately to remove everything in a person that is not in harmony with their ruling love. If they have a constellation which is ultimately capable for heaven than extraneous evils are removed from them, and visa versa. In this process the angels do everything possible, from love, to prepare the person for heaven. But the loves one has formed in their soul – freely chosen and bonded with – are the baseline of our being. We can’t just say we want something – like we want to go to heaven and do it – unless our loves are in harmony with it. There is no fooling God and the angels. God judges truly and knows us better than we know ourself.

The deeper the conception and love we have for the Lord while here on earth the more wonders and truths will be open to us in heaven. We need to have these memories in our mind, and more importantly the loves of life bonded in our soul. Our mind and soul are profoundly connected to heaven, but we must form the bond here for God to ‘prepare the place for us in heaven’. He can only build the mansions in heaven for us according to the loves and beliefs we formed here. All of this is the particulars of how we are in the image of God. Being in the image of God doesn’t just mean shape, it means all the processes in the whole human form correspond between us humans and the Lord. This goes along with the universal principle that the natural world is the foundation of the spiritual world, and for anything to exist it has to have a root in each. The human form is a little heaven in potential, and since the whole of heaven is in the human form, all things are connected by correspondence between the micro and the macro; – including access to ‘places’ – which in the spiritual world means ‘state of being’.

To the degree we understand and love the particulars of how Jesus redeemed all of humanity, (and redeemed you), seeds are planted in our mind and soul. In the spiritual world these seeds of perception are set – their constellation can no longer change – but, to whatever extent they reached into heaven – they will grow forever. The more intimate the love we developed of the Lord the more expansive are the roots, stem, and shoots that grow from the constellation. In the light of heaven, it gradually blooms into a great tree with leaves, fruits, and flowers – far beyond what we could ever imagine. We leave our former life behind, and move forward into ever-increasing joy. These seeds are avenues that lead down expansive paths of joyous wonder ever deeper and deeper. Great mysteries are opened that lead to greater and greater mysteries!

Easter Message: All Lines of Meaning Lead to the Resurrection

November 4th, 2021

All lines of meaning lead to the moment of the resurrection. The resurrection bursts like a sun on the timeline of history. It is a universal principle that the moment of union is a transcendent pinnacle of light, passion and perception. The resurrection is the ultimate union and birthing that will ever be. This is where our eyes can look and have the greatest perception and love. The resurrection is a fountain from which love and wisdom spring in their fullness and return in our love and perception.

In the moment of the resurrection the substance and order of the universe was forever imprinted and changed by Christ’s ultimate act of love, a height of love that had never existed before. He so purified his human body of all evil during the course of his life until the last temptation that His human body merged with His divine soul (God). At His death and resurrection the earth quaked – meaning that there was a profound change of state in the natural and spiritual state of the universe. His human body became divine and entered heaven in the spiritual sun. In the process of His life on earth He ‘drew everything unto him’ each in its own way. He drew everything with Him because he entered the innermost, and he who enters the innermost from love governs all directly. In resurrecting His human body into heaven He defied the laws of physics and the only way to do that is to become divine order which He did by becoming the innermost of all things.

He is the only one to ever do this and the only one who ever will. That He ‘drew all things to him’ and entered the innermost is not a poetic metaphor, but refers to the actual structure of the universe. This can be seen by Jesus’ mighty act of overcoming the terrible darkness on the earth at the end of the Old testament, by His subjugating of the forces of hell, by building an enormous chasm between heaven and hell, and by putting all heaven back into divine order. These are structural changes in the spiritual world that have effect in the natural world for the natural world is the foundation of the spiritual world and the two must always correspond.

This resurrection bursts forth like a sun on the timeline of history! As the Bible says in many places, before the resurrection earth was under the reflected light of the moon, but after it was in the direct light of the sun. After, He became the alpha and omega, which means this: For the first time God entered the material level of the world, whereas before He existed in the spiritual and the celestial levels and governed the natural through the mediate action of angels. By making His human divine He incorporated the natural into ‘the whole’ and from this union light burned exponentially brighter; now the Word was available to man by direct influx, not by representation as it was before. Another way of seeing this spiritual thought is this: the eternal is not linear, the eternal is the presence of God. He is outside time and space, present to all time (past, present and future) and all space and places. He is the center of spiritual gravity. By becoming a human on earth and then bringing his human into oneness with God, Jesus removed obstructions between heaven and earth and lifted up everything. He paved the way in the soul and psyche of man to be able, in potential, to receive heaven in its fullness. I say potential because we must turn to Him and meet Him from our own will to forge the bond.

This is why Christ is the Perfect Man, the Redeemer, the Father, Friend, the Hero of heroes, and we are all inside His body. He is the macro, the Grand Man, and He is in the most internal part of each of us. All lines of meaning lead to Him because of His redeeming acts paved the way for each of us to be redeemed. All the psychological and spiritual processes, the processes of regeneration transformation were re-established by Jesus during his process of Glorification on earth. All meaning has been performed and embodied by Him for our sake.

This conception is very different than thinking of a ‘futuristic future’ that will save us, that there is something ‘out there, someday’, instead of knowing Him from within. In time all knees bend to him whether we cooperate or not. For those who fight against his love put themselves in a dark place for eternity. Those who live a good life and acknowledge Him as God are in happiness and ever increasing joy. Either way, all humans in the beginning and in the end are defined by their attitude toward the One Lord.

In the cross we have the perfect symbol. The horizontal arm is the progression along a linear timeline and that reaches to all the events and variety of history and life; the vertical arm reaches from our internal self to heaven and the lord and brings all meaning and transformation.
This is also why – even in the natural world – time and history are measured from B.C. and A.D.

The Perfectly Just and Generous Nature Of the Lord’s Salvation Applies to All Humanity by The Principle of Union

November 4th, 2021

I believe our state after dying is determined by the quality of love in our soul, especially toward God. And there are three basic practices from our life that effect this, and that are also the basis of Christianity: 1; To acknowledge God in our hearts, 2; To be useful in life and act with care toward our neighbor, and 3; rule one and two must grow together. Neither one is substantial without the other. The marriage of rule one and two is the heavenly pattern, because this is the union of love and wisdom in our soul. The degree to which we have created concordance between them determines our state. In scripture this is expressed this way. “As the tree falleth so it layeth”. The exercise of the two together in everyday life is the expression of spiritual, emotional, and psychological intelligence. Swedenborg writes:

“The chief thing is to acknowledge the Lord, His Divine in the Human, and His Omnipotence in saving the human race…The Lord taught how they would be saved, namely, that they should receive Divine truth from Him; and this is received, when it is applied to, and implanted in, the life by doing it; therefore the Lord so often said, that they should do His words. From these considerations it is evident that these two things, namely, to believe in the Lord and to do His words, make one, and that they can by no means be separated; for he who does not the Lord’s words does not believe in Him” (AE 328).

Here is an organic way to visualize how rule 1 and 2 are inextricably married in use: the branches and leaves of a tree cannot survive if the tree does not have roots in the ground; and conversely, the roots will not long survive if there are no branches and leaves. The relationship between the branches and the roots corresponds to the relationship between love and wisdom, or, the internal and the external of our self. Another example is the symbiosis of how the heart and lungs work together in the human body to keep us alive. The heart corresponds to love, and the lungs to wisdom.

There is no such thing as being neutral to God. If we are not actively accepting Him, then we are busy avoiding him. This is an intense truth we think we can get away from, and we can try for a time, but ultimately we cannot. The Lord said if you are not for me you are against me – there is no in between. Non-acknowledgement (or avoidance) is an action just as much as acknowledgement is an action. These actions are the minute binary of our life, each one gradually accumulating and leading toward heaven or hell. Only God can truly judge that state of this in others, but we can tell to a degree in our own self examination.

Being able to acknowledge that all good comes from God, in spite of appearances, is the acid test of spirituality. Self examination can help to humble and soften our heart so we can receive from God. Humility and innocence are essential to receive God. God can work in us through innocence because this allows the willingness to be led or to submit to good, as opposed to pride. Innocence blooms into maturity when it is combined with intelligence, and becomes wisdom. Innocence is the elixir that opens what is written in our souls from God! In Heaven and Hell Swedenborg expresses with great clarity and tenderness how innocence fosters the internal marriage of love and wisdom in life:

“In the Word by “little children” is meant those who are innocent. Good is good so far as it has innocence in it, for the reason that all good is from the Lord, and innocence is a willingness to be led by the Lord. I have also been told that truth can be conjoined to good, and good to truth only by means of innocence. Hence the conjunction of truth and good is called the heavenly marriage, and the heavenly marriage is heaven. Again, I have been told that love truly conjugial derives its existence from innocence, because it derives its existence from the conjunction of the good and truth in which are the two minds of husband and wife; for married partners are in mutual love, as their minds are. This is why in conjugial love there is a playfulness like that of childhood and innocence” (HH 281).

Innocence longs to serve others more than oneself, and this impulse is the foundation of true strength, peace and wisdom. Innocence also tempers the ever-present inclinations toward evil in us. Swedenborg writes:

“Humiliation is the essential of all adoration and of all worship, for without humiliation the Lord cannot be worshiped and adored, for the reason that the Divine of the Lord cannot flow into a proud heart, that is, into a heart full of the love of self, for such a heart is hard; and is called in the Word a “heart of stone.” But the Divine of the Lord can flow into a humble heart, because this is soft, and is called in the Word a “heart of flesh” (AC 9377).

Hand in hand with acknowledging the divinity of the Lord is the need to perceive and acknowledge that from our self we are full of inclinations toward evil, and without the Lord we are lost in evil. Most of us have unknown levels of intellectual, spiritual, or egotistic pride that blocks us from seeing this. While we are occupied with inclinations to evil, it is impossible to receive good. To temper and remove the evil inclinations we need to see them, expose them, and realize we need the Lord’s help, and then act on what we have realized so that the bond with good can take hold.
From this I hope we can see that the acknowledgement of the Lord and doing good uses cannot be separated:

“The very essential of the church is the acknowledgment of the union of the Divine Itself in the Lord’s Human, and that this must be in each and all things of worship, thus also acknowledgment, for thought without acknowledgment and faith is not spiritual thought. The reason why this is an essential of the church, and consequently an essential of its worship, is that the salvation of the human race depends solely upon this union. Moreover the Lord came into the world for the sake of affecting this union. Therefore also in its inmost sense the whole Word treats of this, and the rituals of the church instituted among the sons of Israel represented it and signified it” (AC 10370).

This principle is everywhere in the Word because it is everywhere in life. Swedenborg writes: “The prudent virgins signify those in the church with whom faith is conjoined to charity, and the foolish signify those in the church with whom faith is separated from charity” (AE 840). The parable of the talents is all about this principle also. Talents represent spiritual intelligence, and spiritual intelligence is the result of the effort to marry rule 1 and 2 in our life. The primary theme of the whole Cane and Abel story in the internal sense is to show that faith and charity cannot be separated and when they are it is destructive.

Now it is wonderful to see how in the principle of union the Lord is entirely just and merciful, because it is up to each person to meet God half-way, to do the work of meeting the responsibilities that come with freedom and faith. We are masters of our own salvation no matter what our situation in life by the choices we make whether one knows of Christianity or not. Swedenborg writes: “It should be known that all who have not separated faith from love, when instructed in the other life, receive the heavenly idea of the Lord, that he is God of the universe. It is otherwise however with those who have separated faith from life”. So it is the pattern of union that determines salvation whether we are Christian or not. This makes us spiritual and able to learn of the Lord once in heaven. So even if a person in their life acted falsely or believed falsely because of the way we were brought up, but acted in good faith toward this falsity, then they can still be saved. Or if a person knows nothing of the Lord because of where they live, as long as they acknowledged God in some way and sought to live a life of good use, they are in the form of heaven. Thus the Lord is entirely just, because it is our own effort to effect union in our soul, however we may believe, that saves.

The Arc of Life, the Innocence of Childhood and the Innocence of Old Age: We begin in God and Return to God

January 12th, 2021

The Arc of Life, the Innocence of Childhood and the Innocence of Old Age: We begin in God and Return to God

“Because innocence attributes nothing of good to itself, but ascribes all good to the Lord, and because it thus loves to be led by the Lord, and is the source of the reception of all good and truth, from which wisdom comes,-because of this man is so created as to be during his childhood in external innocence, and when he becomes old in internal innocence… And when a man becomes old he dwindles in body and becomes again like a child, but like a wise child, that is, an angel, for a wise child is in an eminent sense an angel. This is why in the Word, “a little child” signifies one who is innocent, and “an old man” signifies one who is wise in whom is innocence (From ‘Heaven and Hell’ by Swedenborg).

This leads us to contemplate the arc of life, a symmetry between the beginning and the end. We come into life helpless and innocent, and, in old age, we return to a state of being helpless and innocent. Only in old age we have intelligence and experience added. In a way the whole trick of life is to retain and incorporate innocence with our intelligence and experience – in spite and because or the harsh battering of life in a material world that is in the balance of good and evil.

Intelligence in union with innocence is true wisdom. The innocence of infancy and early childhood is an external innocence because it has not yet bonded into our soul from our own will and conscience. Feeling, embracing and thus incorporating internal innocence into our intelligence is invaluable because it allows us to receive God and bond with God. God can only be received in humility and innocence is the soul of humility. To enter heaven ‘we must be like a child’ means that we have incorporated innocence into our adult intelligence.

An old person returning to being helpless and more like a child is, I believe, part of God’s plan to prepare us for heaven. In old age the compelling ambitions and uses of life have slowed to a trickle. Ambitions are appropriate and good for their time but now that time is over. Outwardly, very old people appear useless, but there is a purpose. It exists as a universal pattern therefore it has use, for God made it. One must turn inward.

As a hospice chaplain I work with lots of old folks at the end of life. Many people lose much of their function physically and mentally. We are brought to our knees and must submit to the condition given us. This humility helps ones soul to receive God. In the story of Zachariah, the father of John the Baptist, the angel comes to him and gives a magnificent speech about what is to come, and the purpose of the son that will be born to them -even though they are old and barren. Zachariah questions Gabriel; doesn’t believe him, wants assurances. Gabriel, the great angel, says, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

Who would contest with such a presence and speech? We trust in God, that he gives us what we need, we may not understand it, but true faith is to strive to trust it. In old age He gives us less choice, and more humility. In old age so many people lose speech, hearing and many other abilities. It is a time for submitting to God, which brings greater peace.

Old age is a sort of pre-vastation. In the spiritual world everyone must be prepared for heaven (or hell); vastation is a ‘cleansing’ process. That which is of evil, pride, lust and greed must be removed from our soul before one can enter heaven.

To understand that everyone has innocence inside is very useful in reaching a person; in my work as a chaplain it helps me to see the good in them, to not identify with the appearance of the ‘old and crusty’, but the best part of them. Holding a person in this way helps them to feel safe and to be open (if at all possible). I look for what excites their enthusiasm. Enthusiasm means God within. And there are many folks who receive and give so beautifully. The filters are gone and the innocence there. A woman recently passed who is a marvelous example. She was Catholic and well educated, and had some levels of dementia and incontinence and other issues, but these are just circumstances. I talked to her about how god loves her, and sang her songs full of affection. among other things I sang her this song – https://stevesanchez.bandcamp.com/track/just-to-say-hey She received this with precious delight. It was like playing the strings of her open affections. Our time together was a celebration of God’s deep, playful and flowing love for us. I would say ‘He loves you’, and she would say, ‘He loves me, I know’; or Hallelujah and she would say it back with the light and excitement of a child. This is a wonderful use and unique experience of intimacy between two and God. We come from God and we return to God.

Understanding Conatus and its Operation In Man and the Universe: Conatus is the Core Process In the Implementation of God’s Providence

October 18th, 2020

Conatus is a very important function in the universe that profoundly informs both scientific and spiritual operation and their integration. It is a Word coined by Swedenborg. Conatus is essentially a spiritual sphere from the Lord that is in all living, and non-living, things. It is God’s means of manifesting his will in all things, and how he works through every minute particular toward that end.

Conatus originates from spheres that come from the Lord in the spiritual sun. It has within it an intelligence from God that always tends toward the manifestation of the human form, or an image of the processes in the human form. In the realms that seem remote from the human, for instance in the processes of geology, or the structures of the universe it is hard to see this, but it nevertheless always corresponds to the processes of the human form just in a remote way to us. By remote I mean that animals, plants and even geology operates in their processes like, and for the human from; each of these three being progressively more removed from the perfect human form but nonetheless part of it. As I have said many times if one were able to see the shape of the whole universe we would see it is the human form.

Conatus works very intimately in all the elements and particular parts (no matter how small) of the material world to form the structures of nature and the universe. Conatus is the catalyst for the perpetual fertile striving for union that brings about life and use; it is latent in everything and comes into power by being put into action, the action of striving for union like the sperm and an egg, or like a seed warmed by the sun that puts out roots into the soil.

The master key example that best informs how conatus works (and makes it most understandable) – is a human being. In a human conatus is essentially the inner will of a person, the ruling love of a persons life. The will comes into its power when in union with the light of the understanding which gives it direction and sharpens its strength. The will is of love and affection, and all thought is impelled by affection. The affections come from God and He leads us by the affections. Conatus is essentially spiritual, it just works very intimately with the material.

Conatus is an influx that works by correspondences. To understand this we need to see that for anything to exist it has to have a form, and anything that has form is made of parts in it.Everything has three ‘discreet degrees’ , and these are cause, effect and end purpose, and each of these degrees are called discreet because they correspond to each other and are part of the same purpose. Conatus is the cause in this trio. Think of it this way, Swedenborg and science have shown (respectively) that there is a sphere, or an aura around all things living and non-living. This is an effect of the conatus. The aura becomes stronger when there is activity, the more intense the stronger it is. It can be positive or negative, good or evil conatus.

The way conatus works in a human being can be used as a template to understand how it works in everything. The divine is the ultimate cause for all, but conatus exists as the cause function in every particular entity there is, whether it be minute or large. In everything that exists there is the pattern of cause, effect, and end purpose. There is a cause for every micro entity, say like an atom. Nothing can exist unless it has a form, and a form is always in a dynamic equilibrium. By dynamic I mean things are always changing form but change into another equilibrium; for instance if we break a glass; its form changed but now pieces are a new form. This also applies to large entities say like the planet or an eco system. An eco system exists as a form because the parts (animals, water, landscape etc.) have settled into an equilibrium together, but if another species is introduced it is now in flux but gradually changes into another equilibrium. For anything to have form it must have within it cause, effect and end, the three levels of discreet degrees. In the human form the will is the conatus, the inner parts are the effect, and the end is the whole human and its use or motion. This correlates to the way the soul, or spiritual human form, is the first cause of all the many parts in the body and the uses they perform, and that then make the whole of the human. (Each individual organ in the body is also a form that has purpose and all the parts in the organ are also forms, and so on – they are all interrelated and serve each other.) These three parts in a form is the picture that defines the pattern for all things. There is a sphere around every human, and every other entity living or non living, because energy proceeds from the particular quality of the union of the three parts in action.

It must be this way because everything that exists has to have a sovereignty or freedom  in order to have existence and have form. There are not two things that exist that are exactly the same, though they may be very very similar. Sovereignty is an expression of the innate drive in everything to seek union and thus be in equilibrium. Conatus is the perpetual drive inside these things from the source. It is very important to see that this expression of Sovereignty in all things comes from the divine human. It is ultimately a reflection of his Sovereignty and freedom and a gift from him. Remember, the human form is the universal template for all because we are made in HIS image. It is so good to see this because when we understand the big picture it informs the rest of the picture, and we can have confidence in our reasoning by correspondence and by receiving perception from God.

Now here is a most fascinating way to see conatus in the universe. Science describes dark matter is the cause, that they cannot see or define, but they have observed its effect the formation of galaxies and all the other structures in the universe. Science describes dark matter as a gravitational force that operates outside the influence of matter and energy; but it works in coordination with gravity; but it acts as an intelligent force constructing the universe. Spiritually, natural gravity in the universe corresponds to the attractive force of love, conatus is this ‘sphere of love’, that binds and constructs with intelligent purpose. Everything that exists no matter how small has a gravitational field because it has matter. The gravitational field is a physical expression or correspondent to the spiritual atmosphere or conatus within and around the object.

Scientists show that dark matter does not interact with light, heat, or radiation, but it does interact with gravity. They say that dark matter is the creative force that causes the universe to construct; they see that it is the force that built the magnificent universe we see now. Dark matter has positive gravity and brings things together, and Dark energy has repulsive gravity and drives things apart and is destructive, and the two are in constant battle. Scientists describe dark matter as the influence or force that caused matter to first clump together or coalesce, which regular matter could not do on its own because the early universe was a blaze of incredible heat, radiation, and ultra fast particles – so normal gravity could not take hold. But they say dark matter cause the first clumping because it is independent of heat and radiation. Science describes dark matter as the ‘scaffolding that guides normal gravity’. Thus from the discovery of science we can only conclude that this force contains an inner intelligence that guides the formation of stars, galaxies, the structure of the cosmic web, and thus the whole of the universe. Scientist further describe Dark matter as an unseen gravitational force that moves into forms and regular matter follows. They say Dark matter orchestrates the movement of regular matter similar to the way dew adheres to a spider web. Dark matter is conatus.

MEDITATION ON THE NATURE OF INTELLIGENCE AND IRRATIONALITY (Drawing by Steve Sanchez)

August 30th, 2020
Intelligence is only so if it leads to something good, otherwise it is just cleverness. Love actually contains within it wisdom, so intelligence is only in its genuine state when it is bonded to love or the desire for good. One can have a high IQ, but it does not mean they are intelligent. The reason for this is that it is irrational to use one’s mind for evil or negative purposes, and to be irrational is not intelligent. It doesn’t matter how high ones IQ is, to the degree one is run by the emotions, the intellect works to justify the emotion.

The best kind of intelligence is perception. In perception one’s heart and soul, mind, and body work together as one to see. All thought and perception arises from the will or ones driving love, and the skills of the mind work to interpret or articulate the desire of one’s love. One can observe this in yourself and it is a very good thing to do because it brings self knowledge and self examination of our motives.
Genuine intelligence hones in on the cause behind the subject at hand; it looks to the whole picture because it desires to do what is best for the individual and for the whole of society. It cares about its own good and for the good of ones’s community and country. On this point it is very important to realize why the sequence of honor goes from ‘God, Country and neighbor’. The bigger the entity one seeks to serve the greater one is sacrificing one self to the whole, and thus the more the heart commits to expanding in love. If one does this in good faith God honors it. This is why it is said, ‘for those who serve their country truly, the Lords kingdom becomes their new country’.
False intelligence only looks at one’s own interest or one group’s interest and overlooks the harm to others or the whole. To do this they always use relativistic thinking which claims that everything is subjective and therefore of equal value, but this is not true. Somethings are good and somethings are bad, and they must be discerned and articulated and addressed for what they are. Only evil relativizes good and evil. Whenever you see someone relativizing it is often a tell-tale sign of hidden ill-will. To say everything is subjective is a way of clouding the mind. It does not let the mind grasp and stand on solid ground; it is a truth but only half the truth.
To see the whole perspective let us look at the cross. The cross has a horizontal arm and a vertical arm. The horizontal arm reaches out to all of humanity to include everyones subjective perspective; the vertical arm reaches up to the source of divine live, and thus can inform the horizontal arm with many particulars of principled insight. Another way of saying this is that we are all human and in a body, but the human form is also the ONLY WAY OF RECEIVING TRUTH AND INSPIRATION FROM GOD. It is designed and made to do so.
The human form is a universal form because it is the from of God and the created is always a reflection of that which created it. Our human body is a receptacle of love and wisdom from God; it is the only form that can receive this higher consciousness. Just as the eye is an organ that is a receptacle of light and the ear a receptacle of sound, the human soul is a receptacle of love and wisdom from God. It is the highest form in the universe, in fact the universe itself and heaven itself is in the human form, which is known as the Grand Man.
To receive this light from the Lord one needs faith and enthusiasm. One needs to have the heat of love in your soul to clear the dross of the bodies inertia. If one is waiting for proof it will never come. That is the way of external minded. To penetrate to the internal one needs the desire of love for the subject at hand.
This is why negative people ask you to prove it. They seek to put you on their ground of the external world only, and the vagaries of this world are difficult to negotiate. Once you are in a position of proving something doubt is introduced and with that the matter at hand can be clouded and mired. This is the ‘reasonable’ technique of evil to cause doubt, and suffocate the heart by the minds doubt.
It takes skill and practice to find the sound place inside. It is a constant effort of Maintenance, and this skill involves bringing the mind and soul in union.

MEDITATION ON THE HOLY SPIRIT

August 18th, 2020

MEDITATION ON THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit, the fire that proceeds from God, and that kindles in our breasts a spiritual passion for God to win; it is a marriage of awareness and love that together creates a burning thirst that only He can satisfy. And God is in His people. The Holy Spirit compels us to find the way to express what God has given us to do. The Holy Spirit proposes a puzzle that we must work out in our hearts, and by our actions in the world; and to the degree we do we BOND with God – the only true glory afforded to humans (received as if by brushing the hem of His robe). The Holy Spirit simultaneously inspires in us the willingness to humbly submit to God’s will – and the strength to see through deception and fight evil. The Holy spirit first kindles an anxiety of unknown cause and purpose, but if we persevere through, the fog of anxiety clears, and the desire to be right with God leads us to understand and to inspire others; and, it cannot help but lead us to confront and expose the deceptions of those of ill-intent – and to do it with love – which may engender composure or ferocity. The Holy Spirit moves us to honor the good deeds and sacrifices of others, and especially to honor the one who redeemed all humanity by His deeds and sacrifice. Honor is for men and woman, Worship is honor to God, something only He is worthy of.

Conspiracy Theorists and Leftist Media Are Trying to Sell Gloom and Doom: DOOM AND GLOOM ARE NOT THE WAY OR THE TRUTH

April 21st, 2020
DOOM AND GLOOM IS NOT THE WAY OR THE TRUTH

There are a lot of conspiracy theories that the virus was purposely caused by deep state globalists. This makes the lock down more distressing and maddening. I wouldn’t be a surprise if at least some of it were true. The style of these reports are usually alarming and alarmist. To get caught up in doom and gloom is I think a mistake. Even if they are true they are going to find out Trump and the responsible leaders in the USA are fighting back. It would be a thousand times worse if Trump were not in office – because he can be trusted. President Trump has shown over and over he is doing everything possible to keep us on the right track in order to stop the virus and to reopen America.
Even if the evil forces did get away with causing this pandemic, they are not on a free run. They got over with a good one but the back fight is going to be better for the world in the long run. God uses things like this to turn them into some good that we can’t foresee like him. Spiritually this lock down has had the effect of having people look out for others good as much as their own, and this mind set has to some degree honed people’s way of looking at each other. That is a very good thing. Usually events like this are in a particular place and we can say, “oh this is happening to others and doesn’t really effect me’, and it does not change us or hit home. But this has hit home for all of us, and caused us to see how we are all in the some boat. I think it has had a good spiritual effect in this way for the world, which is no small thing. It also has had the effect of vastating people of old habits and to reflect more deeply on our self and our lives.
It is nevertheless a very distressing situation. I have confidence that we will bounce back big and better. What have we really lost. We have lost money, our savings have gone down significantly, some people have lost jobs, some pretty severe stuff; our economy has gone down, but we can recover from this. The Government under Trump has greatly honed their ability to respond to disasters like this, and exercised the ability to rally together. Every individual has also learned. We have learned a lot about who can lead and who can’t, and every good leader has become better from this crisis. The dangers of China and letting ourselves be dependent on China, or other foreign countries, is not going to be like it was at all. We will be prepared against this kind of evil wether it is started intentionally or by accident. This I think this is the healthy outlook. Part of the work of evil forces is to convince us there is doom and gloom coming and evil is winning.
All this reminds me of what scientist say about dark energy (destructive force) eventually overwhelming dark matter (constructive force) and destroying the universe. That’s not going to happen. Because science only looks at the natural level, they think that dark energy is going to take over the universe (long in the future), but they don’t understand that there is a response and reaction from dark matter, that they can’t foresee, that fights back toward equilibrium. God is present and fights for his people. We work with him and keep the faith.

Description of the Structure of the Entire Natural and Spiritual Universe And the View It Gives of How Jesus Christ Renewed Everything In the Resurrection

April 19th, 2020

There is only one God and that is Jesus the divine human. There can be only one God by the nature of what the divine is. The divine is omnipotent and omnipresent, and there can only be One who has this power and quality. If there were two then neither would be omnipotent or omnipresent, so more than one is an impossibility. These are principles of truth not abstractions. (The slightest thought of two gods, as some have falsely held on earth, is utterly abhorrent to angels and those in heavenly light). God is in the human form; He is the perfect human from creation, always has and always will be. Before the resurrection in the Old Testament in the Bible He was known as Jehovah; after the resurrection He is known as Jesus Christ who is the same one God as Jehovah, except with a new human. God had never been in the material world of earth before. By being birthed on earth and resurrected after death Jesus Christ became the new human of God. The resurrection is the ultimate birthing. The Glorification process was the refining fire by which Jesus forged the eternal bond between his human body and divine soul.

We humans are made “in His image” meaning we are human because He is human, except He is infinite and divine and we are finite and human beings with a soul. It is a universal principle that all things created by the divine repeat the form of the divine. Because His form is repeated in everything, we are in the human form, and the human form is a universal form in the universe. In its actual shape and structure the whole of the universe is a complete human in all of its parts and organs in every minutest detail. This is known as the Grand Man, which is Jesus in His macro, and so it is true that we are in the body of Jesus. Even the animal kingdom, the plant kingdom and the mineral kingdom derive their nature from the human form, though they are (each in turn) more remote forms of it.

If one were able to see the whole of heaven you would see that it is composed of heavenly societies that compose and correspond to all the parts and organs of the human body. Each society is like a city or community, self contained and has all the functions, uses, occupations, wonders of nature as do cities, communities, or nations on earth. Each society of heaven corresponds to a specific part of the human form, like the lung, heart, skin, veins, muscles, brains, etc. The part of the human form that a society corresponds relates to the character and overall purpose of the society. For instance hearing relates to the ability to understand and obey. The heart relates to the ability to know the truth from love immediately from hearing it. The skin are those who are very dense in strictly obeying doctrine, but are a protector of the precious insides. This is true in every minutest detail of the body and its innumerable parts. God is sovereign, each society is sovereign, and each human is sovereign; and, each of these in its overall structure is in the human form. In addition, each of the innumerable parts in the human, that is in each of the sovereign entities, are connected and serve an essential function to each other and to the whole. Each angel loves serving the others in their society more than themselves, so love increases exponentially the more that enter.

The Grand man is the overall form of heaven; hell is not in the Grand man, but is its opposite; hell is in the shape of a Satanic human. (The Grand Man and Satan are enormous and complex far beyond our ability to understand, and no human can see them in their whole, but we can conceptualize them in principle.) Now to see the whole structure of the universe Imagine the infinitely beautiful Grand man standing and facing the infinitely brilliant spiritual sun, (of which God Himself is in the midst). Underneath The Grand Man, upside down to him, and facing away from the Sun is Hell in the shape of Satan, a monstrous human form. Hell is the negative opposite in every way to the grand man. For every particular society in heaven that serves good, there is an opposite society in hell that serves evil. Opposite each particular society of the highest heaven (and the function it serves), there is a society in deepest hell, that serves the hellish negative of that society, and this is the same for the middle heavens, and the middle hells, and the lower heavens, and the higher hells. There is a perfect equilibrium maintained between heaven and hell in structure, but spiritually they completely repel each other like the same poles of magnets. There is no union between them. The very atmosphere in the spiritual world is composed of ‘a quality of affection. The various qualities of love and wisdom are the spiritual substance that compose the ‘air’ in each particular societies of the spiritual world. In heaven the atmosphere is of love and in hell it is of hate. So those in hell cannot even breath or survive in the heavenly atmosphere.

It is also important to see that though they are opposite forces hell has no source of its own. Those in hell receive life from God, but they have completely inverted and corrupted that life into selfish love and hate, and they have done so by their own freedom of choice, not God’s will. The soul of each person that lives while in the natural world takes on a form that is based on the way the lived, believed and loved, and when they die this form is set and cannot change. If it is capable of heavenly light they are prepared for heaven and they grow from the form of their soul at the end of life. The form, or constellation of their soul, is like a seed from which they can then grow in happiness for eternity. If they are hellish then they grow negatively from that form.

Hell, in the human figure of Satan, is beneath, and upside down to the Grand Man. Their feet are adjacent but the Satan is facing in the opposite direction from the Grand Man (away from the spiritual sun). Those who are in hell appear to them self to be standing upright, but the position just described shows their true spiritual state, which is that their feet are up and their head down. Also, between heaven and hell is a chasm which separates them, and this is the world of spirits. The world of spirits is in the spiritual world between heaven and hell, and it is a transitional place (state) that gradually prepares each person that dies for heaven or hell. The world of spirits can be a beautiful place or a scary place. Everyone there is undergoing a gradual process of vastation that prepares them for their eternal time in heaven or in hell. Vastation means to ‘be cleansed’. This means those who can receive heaven gradually go through a process of removing that in them that is from hell. Everyone has within them a ruling love and if their ruling love is hate then they are prepared for Hell. The things in them that are of heaven are vastated for these are extraneous and not part of the core love. Those with a ruling love for heaven are vastated of extraneous loves from hell. It must be so so they can be in heaven or hell and its atmosphere without duplicity. Each person in the world of spirits is gradually gravitating to the east or west, the east being toward heaven and the west toward hell.

Life on earth is in perfect equilibrium between the forces of heaven and hell. Because heaven and hell are of the spirit they are outside time and space and can be present to people on earth and to people in the world of spirits. The whole structure of creation rests on this equilibrium for it is the fulcrum upon which human freedom exists! The end purpose of this structure is in the service of humans, (which includes the spirits in the world of spirits (former humans), and angels (former humans)). There is no other way for a person to have life and consciousness other than to be in freedom. The equilibrium between heaven and hell that provides freedom is another expression of how the human form is a universal form in the universe.  The world of spirits is somewhat like the natural world in that in it there is good and evil, but people’s abilities are much more refined there, and one’s purpose there is more refined, that is, to be vastated in preparation for heaven or hell. The world of spirits is a sort master growth processing place in which the falsities of thought and self perception are removed so that one can come into their true self. This is of course for those going to heaven. Hell is for those who have not prepared them self on earth to be able to receive this process. They refuse and reject every prompting and effort of the angels to the point they choose to be in hell, not necessarily consciously but by their actions and because their ruling love is hate. The world of spirits looks in every way very much like earth life, but the people don’t have physical bodies, but spiritual bodies, and as they gradually realize this they see that their faculties are many times greater and more astute than they were in the world.

In the resurrection when Jesus became one with God He became the innermost of all things, and what is the innermost is also the outermost. This means that his presence is immediate with everyone and all things and He became the Grand Man! In achieving the resurrection through the glorification process Jesus defied all the laws of physics. He merged his material body with the divine and made it spiritual. He raised it into the spiritual world. This can never happen, other than by the divine; and it will never happen again for what the divine does is eternal by nature. It is not so much that He defied the laws of physics but that He became the law of the universe from love. This is what it means to enter the innermost. The one who defies the undefiable laws of physics can only do so by becoming divine order; He becomes the innermost and outermost of the universe. God from the beginning is divine truth and love. What He did in being born on earth is prophesied in the Bible from beginning to end. Prophecy in the Bible is divine truth because it comes for the will of God. In being born on earth and growing to manhood Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies of the Bible thus became and upgraded divine truth.  By doing this Jesus Christ renewed all things, and now has immediate relationship and presence to everyone and everything. He exponentially increased the light available in the natural and spiritual worlds.

Correspondences Between the Known Principles of Physics In the Natural Sun and the Holy Nature of the One Spiritual Sun

April 15th, 2020

The heat and light of the natural sun corresponds to love and wisdom from the spiritual sun. We know the sun provides heat and light without which nothing could live. Suns are the source of all energy and raw material for the entire natural world. All the suns throughout the universe are the source of heat and light for their respective solar systems, and beyond. In the spiritual world there is only one sun and it is the one source of all life. It is the origin of life, and creates the substance of life; the fundamental substance of life being love and wisdom from the Lord in the midst of the spiritual sun.

The natural suns are made of matter, are in time and space, and are innumerable, whereas there is only one spiritual sun. This one sun is the one source of everything. The reality that there is one spiritual sun and innumerable natural suns in the universe is a function of correspondence, in that the natural sun cannot possibly reflect the infinite presence of the spiritual sun by size, so it corresponds by innumerable numbers. The reason for this is that in the natural world there is time and space, while in the spiritual world everything is based on state of being, or quality of love.

Science’s ability to penetrate some of the secrets of physics that occur in the sun offers the opportunity to look deep into potential correspondences. Science shows that everything that happens on earth occurs by a process, and correspondingly Swedenborg demonstrates that everything that occurs in the spiritual world occurs by a process. It is very important to grasp this concept, and we can only do so by practicing on particular examples. Humans have an ingrained habit of ‘magical thinking’ when it comes to the spiritual world, meaning we tend to think that things just happen there, that God makes them by the wave of the hand. But we know everything with humans is a matter of gradual growth, and accomplished reciprocally; and that everything in nature requires a process. It is the same in heaven: in heaven people don’t just sit on a cloud and bask in God’s light, but experience fulfillment through being useful in all the same type of occupations we have here. Everything is relational in both worlds. Only in heaven people passionately love serving others more than themselves.

Let’s look at the example of the sun again. Einstein discovered that the source of the sun’s power is nuclear fusion. The sun’s mass is so enormous its gravity causes unfathomable pressure and heat in its core. The pressure and heat cause the atoms to accelerate to incredible speeds at close proximity. Hydrogen atoms normally repel each other, but the heat and pressure at the core is so enormous it causes the Hydrogen atoms to smash together and split, forming a new element – helium. In the process they release heat, and light as photons, and the massive power of the explosion seeks to expand to the surface of the sun. This is nuclear fusion, the engine in the suns core. The sun is anything but static; within the sun there is a constant tension, a raging battle between gravities crushing inward force, and nuclear fusion’s immense expansive fire. But the two forces settle into an equilibrium that lasts for billions of years, and together provide all the elements in the universe, and the heat and light that sustain life.

It is a universal principle that that which is created by the source has in it the inclination to repeat the form of the source. The master example of this is that humans are made in the image of God. The equilibrium between the forces of gravity and nuclear fusion in the sun defines the form of the sun, and because the sun is the source, the form of equilibrium is repeated in everything that exists. For anything to exist it has to have a form, and anything that has form has some kind of equilibrium that is the cause for that form. Based on this principle Swedenborg writes that just as there is an infinite largeness there is also an infinite minuteness. There is nothing so minute that there is not something smaller that is the substance within it. For instance an atom is a form that has within it electrons, neutrons and protons spinning around. As science keeps discovering, even the protons and neutrons have smaller things that compose them, and there are smaller things yet which compose these, and so on. It is beyond our ability to comprehend infinite minuteness, but based on the principle of form, substance and equilibrium we can see it must be true.

Equilibrium is in everything we see. The human body and every organ in it has a certain equilibrium between the inside forces of blood pressure and muscle tension, and the outside forces of gravity and atmospheric pressure. A leaf on a tree has equilibrium in a similar way. Anything we might look at is in a state of equilibrium, a chair, a light bulb, a cell, a fiber, anything, because they have a form, and substance inside it. The equations of Newton and Einstein work within equilibrium. The state of equilibrium can always change, for instance if a bottle is broken, but its pieces settle into another state of equilibrium. Swedenborg writes:

For any thing to have existence there must be an equilibrium of all things. Without equilibrium there is no action and reaction; for equilibrium is between two forces, one acting and the other reacting, and the state of rest resulting from like action and reaction is called equilibrium. In the natural world there is an equilibrium in all things and in each thing. It exists in a general way even in the atmosphere, wherein the lower parts react and resist in proportion as the higher parts act and press down. Again, in the natural world there is an equilibrium between heat and cold, between light and shade, and between dryness and moisture, the middle condition being the equilibrium. There is also an equilibrium in all the subjects of the three kingdoms of nature, the mineral, the vegetable, and the animal; for without equilibrium in them nothing can come forth and have permanent existence (Heaven and Hell, 589).

Another correspondence we can see in the sun has to do with the fact that the divine contains infinite variety, and is the source of life. From the divine human in the spiritual sun manifests the infinite variety and continual abundance of life, similarly, there is nothing that exists in nature that is exactly the same as anything else. For instance, science shows that snowflakes can be very similar, but never exactly the same. It is the same with everything. There are no two human beings that are the same, or ever will be.

To see how suns are the source of all things in nature, and the cause of variety, lets look more deeply at what happens in the sun. Scientists teach that the nuclear fusion taking place in the sun is the cause of all the elements of the universe. A sun like ours is only big enough to produce helium, but stars bigger produce such massive gravity that they have enough heat and pressure to create heavier elements such as sulfur and iron. These heavier elements are only created in supernovas. The elements are made by the incredible heat and energy released when the supernova explodes. Scientists report that the heaviest of elements, such as Gold, are made by the even more enormous explosions that occur when two neutron stars collide. This is why the heavier Elements are more rare. These incredible explosions send the elements out into the universe. And from these elements and their infinite combinations, all the things in the universe originate – planets, galaxies, new stars, and all living things. Scientists describe supernovas as the mother of all substances and objects in the universe. From this information we get an idea of the essential correspondence between God as the source of all things and their infinite variety, and the sun as the source of the abundance and variety in nature.

In my experience correspondence never fails; we simply have to dig into understanding them. Below is another interesting correspondence. In this correspondence we can compare the dynamics between; one, the divine in the spiritual sun and the reception of Him where angels live; and, two, the natural sun and the dynamics of how humans on earth receive light and heat from the sun. Swedenborg writes:

Divine love in the spiritual world appears to the sight of angels like the sun, as far distant from them as the sun of our world is from men. If therefore God, who is in the midst of that sun, were to come close to angels, they would perish just as men would if the sun of the world came close to them, for it is equally burning. For this reason there are constant controls which modify and moderate the burning heat of that love, so that its radiation should not reach heaven undiluted, since this would consume the angels. When therefore the Lord makes His presence more immediately felt in heaven, the irreligious beneath heaven begin to complain, suffering torture and fainting, so that they take refuge in caves and fissures in the mountains (TCR, 691).

This corresponds to the fact that where there is life on a planet there must be the right distance from the sun, and also, a certain delicate balance of characteristics on the planet that protect the life there. Earth being at the perfect distance from the sun is a clear correspondence, but there are many more subtle comparisons to be made. For instance scientist have discovered how essential the magnetic field of the earth is to protecting life against the power of solar flares and radiation. (When solar flares are too big people on earth complain that they take out our electrical systems.) The motion of molten magma inside the earth causes a rather weak magnetic field around earth, but this magnetic field is strong enough to form a barrier around the earth that deflects harmful solar radiation. Also, just the right tilt of the earth’s axis creates the seasons around the globe, which is important for many things, especially maintaining moderate temperatures, a variety of climates for life, and especially a stable atmosphere. These factors, plus just the right amount of water on earth, produce a healthy atmosphere that provides essential protection from the sun’s radiation. The moon provides essential protection for earth by stabilizing its rotation on its axis; without this life would be thrown into dramatic cycles of destruction, mostly due to sudden huge temperature changes, and loss of a stable atmosphere. All of these factors, and many more, work together to maintain a delicate balance; they correspond to the ‘constant controls which modify and moderate’ the burning heat and light of the spiritual sun from harming angels. I am not a physicist, but we can see these correspondences readily enough on the level of principle. The more detailed one’s knowledge of science the deeper the correspondences that can be seen.

Now we look to the ultimate source of equilibrium that makes it a universal correspondence, and demonstrates the connectedness of all things. Inside the spiritual sun there is also an infinite, dynamic marriage that is the source of life. This is the Holy marriage between the Lord’s divine essence and his divine human. This is the Holy of Holies. From this marriage radiates Holy fire, which is the cause of the spiritual sun’s light and heat (wisdom and love). The powerful forces we described inside the natural sun give us a glimpse, by correspondences, of the unfathomably powerful union inside the spiritual son. The equilibrium in the natural sun corresponds to the Holy marriage in the spiritual sun; except, of course, the forces inside the natural son are not alive; they are material and energy based, but in the spiritual sun life comes from the source itself, the divine human, Jesus Christ. This is the mother of all correspondences.

“In the Sun there, which is from Himself, is Divine fire, which is the Divine good of the Divine love. From that Sun is Divine light, which is Divine truth from Divine good”. (AC 8644).

“That the union in the spiritual sun is holy, and in its interiors most holy, is very evident from the fact that in every detail of it there is the heavenly marriage, that is, the marriage of good and truth, thus heaven; and that in every detail of the inmost sense there is the marriage of the Lord’s Divine Human with His kingdom and church; nay, in the supreme sense there is the union of the Divine Itself and the Divine Human in the Lord” (AC 6343).

It is as if His body (Jesus) is the candle and his essence (God) the wick, and the marriage of them produces the Holy fire from which radiates infinite love and wisdom. This bond, or marriage, and resulting Holy fire, causes the form of the spiritual sun. The Holy bond between Jesus and God was forged (in all wonder, pain, joy, and beauty) in the glorification process while Jesus was on earth. In the resurrection the Lords body was made divine, and merged with the divine essence. What radiates from the spiritual sun around the Lord is the universal spiritual substance of life, – love and wisdom – just as heat and light radiate from the natural sun. Love and wisdom are spiritual in nature; indeed they are the indivisible spiritual substance of life, not abstractions.
